On Monday morning, actress Kangana Ranaut unveiled a new trailer of her upcoming movie Emergency, showcasing her epic transformation as the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. After several setbacks, the movie will finally release in theatres on January 17, 2025. The political drama is directed, written, co-produced and headlined by Ranaut.
Emergency Trailer
In the less-than-two-minute-long trailer, Kangana, who essays the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi is seen telling the president that she is the “cabinet.” She goes against all the leaders as she makes the decision to declare an emergency in the country. The trailer also shows Anupam Kher as Jayaprakash Narayan writing a letter from the prison, whereas we also see Shreyas Talpade as the late Atal Bihari Vajpayee saying democracy is at risk.
Soon after, in the video, we witness violence, death and chaos that took place during the 21 months from 1975 to 1977 and its aftermath. At the end of the trailer, we see Kangana loudly declaring, “Indira is India.”
Taking to X, Kangana shared the trailer and tweeted, “1975, Emergency — A Defining chapter in Indian History. Indira: India’s most powerful woman. Her ambition transformed the nation, but her #EMERGENCY plunged it into chaos.”
Apart from Kangana, this ambitious project also stars Mahima Chaudhry as Pupul Jayakar, Ashok Chhabra as Morarji Desai, Vishak Nair as Sanjay Gandhi and the late Satish Kaushik as Jagjivan Ram.
